Thought for the day: Seek punishment for your sins, for in so doing you raise yourself in His eyes.

OUT-OF-CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE: Although these are written as in-character records from the Inquisitor, your characters themselves don't know about these records. These are GM-written based upon the backgrounds you write on your character pages (primarily, the "How did you meet your inquisitor" question).

Varnias Nicodemus, Sanctioned Psyker

Varnias came to my attention after security orbital N-577-619 was captured by a ++Restricted++ cult. According to the Imperial Navy report (see attached reference 56245681-K), he was found hiding inside a maintenance shaft, the only survivor. They turned him over to me, and he appears to be untainted, apart from his exisiting psychic prowress. His powers seem unfocussed at present, and with additional experience he may prove to be a powerful sanctionite. As such, I plan to take him as an Acolyte, and harness his powers for the Emperor. As all my current teams are working to their fullest potential, I am unwilling to disrupt their activities by introducing a new member into any of them. Therefore I plan to recruit a new group to form a team around Varnias.

I have requested a servitor to watch over Varnias's soul, and in the event that his powers prove uncontrolled to commit it to the Emperor's side for judgement.

Hastur Aurelius, 57th Penal Legion

Hastur's service record (see attached reference 100046296-196-A and 100046296-196-B combat reports) indicates he is a competent soldier, with unquestionable faith and loyalty to the Imperium. I have selected him for service in the Inquisition as his proven combat skills will be extremely valuable to the team I am forming.

When I met Hastur in person however my first impressions were much less favourable - he was insubordinate and belligerant, clearly only following the provost's instructions due to his collar. When I offered him the chance to get out of the Penal Legion he was extremely willing, even more so after I revealed exactly who his new employer would be.

Hastur has had problems with authority in the past - therefore, I have not authorised the removal of his Penal Legion collar as of yet, in case that he proves unable to follow my instructions or unable to work with the other members of the team. However, I believe there will be no major issues, as his belief in the Imperium is strong and he will be more than willing to give everything in service to the Emperor.

Pike (unknown whether real name or assigned title)

The scum known as Pike is an unexpected addition to the team. He was the only survivor when, during the delivery of my requested Servitor to my location on St. Grisham, the convoy was ambushed by Orks which have plagued the world for years (see attached report AY-66-578 for details on my purging of the heretical so-called "Green Brigade" cult on that world). I was on the verge of executing him until it appeared that it was only due to his efforts were the Orks defeated and The Servitor preserved.

Pike, although criminal, ambitious, and lacking any sort of loyalty or moral code, possesses a keen instinct for survival and is willing to do anything to further his own greed-filled life. Provided his greed can be kept in check and the cost of betraying the Inquisition is higher than the benefits he obtains from serving our organisation, I believe he will be a useful addition to the team with his ability to barter, acquire, or failing that steal whatever is required for the team to perform their duties.

Pike must be constantly monitored - if the cost of his service ever exceeds his contributions to the Throne then he will have to be delivered unto the Emperor for justice.

V3NR14, Inquisitorial Combat Servitor

++Restricted++

Zek Gallus, Murderer

Zek came to my attention as I was investigating a string of unsolved murders, which the Arbites suspected were the work of a new and as yet unknown cult. Their fears were unfounded however, as the cause turned out to be a single surprisingly skilled killer. Such talent should not be wasted on the end of an Arbites' gun, and therefore I offered Zek the chance to serve the Throne. I was initially confused when he asked me how much I was willing to offer - and then taken aback when I realised that Zek thought I meant Throne Gelt, not the hallowed Golden Throne itself! For Zek has no loyalty beyond that of petty cash and lives to take, although with his skills I am willing to pay for his services so that both he may send those deserving to be judged at the Emperor's feet, and also that he may be judged more favourably when it is time for himself to be judged.

I have notified the Arbites that the situation has been resolved to my own satisfaction, and that the cause of the murders has been dealt with and they should not trouble themselves further.

Vern Renshaw, Adeptus Arbites

Vern's dedication to punishing the guilty is clear from his service record (see attached reference Orbital-G9T-5673-alpha), and should he continue down this path of righteous punishment I believe he may progress far in service of the Inquisition. His determination to finish whatever job is placed in front of him, regardless of the personal cost, is admirable, although he must learn to focus and use his hatred on targets more deserving of it rather than such petty criminals and mere gang thuggery.

Vern should prove a useful foil to both Pike and Zek, although I will have to keep a watchful eye on them to ensure they do not devolve to murdering one another.

Calimacrux Acolyte Cell

I pray that this group of five varied souls will be able to bind together and form a cohesive working arrangement, if nothing else. I believe their loyalties will be kept in the right place with the suitable application of heretics to burn or payment for services, however in the event these do not prove sufficient I have safeguards already in place.

I have impressed upon them all that whatever they were, they are now in service of the Emperor's Inquisition - and therefore, although they are now above the laws of the Imperium themselves, I and my fellow Inquisitors still hold the ultimate sanction over their heads.

Emperor be willing, I will find a suitable task to test their courage, abilities, and dedication to one another and the Golden Throne on before we reach Scintilla where they will receive their formal introduction to the Inquisition.

The Emperor protects.
