Thought For the Day: Life is a prison, death shall be my release.
Lord Inquisitor Trantor, what follows is an update of the progress of your Unremitting Cell of Acolytes in their mission to solve the Sveslor Subsector Crisis.
In transit to Amduena, your servants interrogated Sir Raltus (ex-governor of Saijad) further (see Document ϰ43 - Interrogation: Sir Raltus - Supplement I). He revealed that the amulet recovered on Gorane was an icon of the 'one true god'. Said amulet appeared to shift form each time it was looked at and has been sealed away for future destruction (see Document φ12 - Artefact: Amulet of the One True God for more details). He also told us that the followers of this 'one true god' gifts his followers with a path that they must follow to fulfill his bidding and that not all paths are the same.
Upon reaching orbit above Amduena, we found that Duena, the capital was still in the midst of a civil war where at least some portion of the PDF had turned traitor. Unable to perform an orbital drop directly onto the city, the Imperial Guard forces were forced to land two-days travel away. Your cell could not afford to waste time and instead dropped onto the compound of Duena's Adeptus Arbites. To ensure our safety in the war-torn city, we requisitioned Squad C1 of the 3rd Company, Regel 5 Foemakers.
The drop was deviated to avoid the packed refugees inside the Arbites compound. Nevertheless, the cell and accompanying infantry made it to the compound intact. Once there, we were briefed on the situation by Lord Arbite Azuriel. Faced with opposition by armed gangs and PDF factions, the Arbites had been unable to maintain law and order in the city and, in accordance with protocol, fell back to their compound, were they had been intermittently besieged ever since. At least eight factions were known to be fighting over the city. As we were discussing the best route towards the Chapel of the Revealed Emperor, a wave of attackers broke upon the walls. Squad C1 was detached to assist the Arbites while the cell continued into the city.
Meeting negligible resistance on the way to the chapel, the cell were surprised to find the surrounds filled with a crowd of kneeling worshipers. They had sealed all entrances to the chapel with purity seals and appeared to be praying, the exact nature of their prayers could not be ascertained as their tongues had been removed. With assistance from the ecclesiarchy, it was later revealed that the crowd were loyal citizens hoping to prevent evil entities from spreading throughout the city. Once your servants gained entry to the chapel, the crowd sealed the doors once again.
Inside, the chapel was dark but the interior was quickly illuminated by a number of floodlights. The lighting revealed a hooded figure in ecclesiastical robes facing the pulpit featuring a broken Aquila. When asked to show his face, he refused saying he did not wish to turn his back on the 'one true god' as he had been 'shown the path'. Before he could be questioned further, he was burned to death by Magnus (see Document η11 - Premature Termination: Amduena Cultist). Curious as to what he meant by 'turning his back on the one true god', Lazerus stood in his position and saw that the right wing of the Aquila has broken off but remained suspended in the air, tilted down slightly. This was but one of the many forms taken by the amulet described above. Thus we can conclude that the broken Aquila with a descending right wing is the principle sigil of the so-called 'one true good'.
Investigation of the upper levels of the chapel revealed that all furniture and contents had been removed. These were later discovered to be in the possession of the diligent crowd who had sought to save them from heretical taint. They have been reinstalled in the re-sanctified chapel.
The lower levels containing the inquisitorial conclave were covered in ash. This was not perturbing as, in accordance with protocol, all records had been destroyed. What was perturbing was the presence of the profane altar to the dark gods, described in more detail in Document ξ86 - Location: Amduena Conclave. The focus of this site was Interrogator Cimbria, suspended in chains above the pit of blood. She had been disemboweled and her eyes removed along with a number of other ritualistic injuries. The wounds had been made cleanly and deliberately, the work of a professional. Interestingly, Interrogator Cimbria was still alive, no doubt kept so by the dark powers that infested this dark place.
Before she was given the Emperor's mercy, Cimbria was able to tell us a little of what had occurred. Her testimony is recorded in full in Document ϱ142 - Interview: Interrogator Cimbria. As suspected, her assailants called themselves servants of the one true god but she was not aware what purpose she served in their plan. During the incident on 569 851 M41 she locked down the complex and destroyed the files but something was still able to make its way down. She was not aware of how she remained alive during this time, especially since noone had visited her. Her intelligence gathering activities prior to the incident had uncovered the cult of the one true god but the cult had been considered minor and a report was in the process of being compiled for the Calimacrux Cell.
Once given the emperor's mercy, it became clear that Cimbria was in fact the one thing keeping the daemon in the pit chained. Like the daemon on Gorane (see Sveslor Subsector Crisis Report 4), this daemon had been trapped by the devotees of the one true god to serve their malign purposes. This daemon, however, expanded on its role in their plot. Its presence provides an anchor tying the one true god to this subsector. The presence of the daemon would make it easier for the 'god' to manifest. Content that it was no longer being used against its will, the daemon left for the warp. As with the daemon on Gorane, it offered us a gift but we again refused.
Once it had left, we defaced the heretical altar and cleansed the place as best we could. Leaving the chapel, we rendezvoused with the imperial guard moving into the city. The task-force proceeded to eliminate all anti-imperial factions within the city, lifting the siege of the Adeptus Arbites compound. This process took several days as the heretical PDF factions were well armed and entrenched.
After our discoveries on Amduena, the cell once again interrogated Sir Raltus, documented in Document ϰ43 - Interrogation: Sir Raltus - Supplement II). He revealed that the devotees of the one true god had summoned a daemon on Saijad but the only people who knew where said daemon was imprisoned were Magos Novus and the lead arbitrator, both of whom died before they could be interrogated. As to why the daemons were being summoned, Sir Raltus told us that the anchors allowed power to be channeled more easily and effectively used in summoning the one true god into this realm. Said summoning merely requires an influx of great power and does not require the chained daemons. When questioned as to when the one true god would be summoned, Sir Raltus told us that all will occur according to the 'timetable', the details of which he claimed not to know.
Understandably, we are shocked that there is still the taint of heresy on Saijad in the form of an imprisoned daemon. However, we are confident that the seals put upon it by the cult of the one true god are sufficient to prevent it from causing havoc. Once we have silenced this heretic cult and restored the Emperor's light to this subsector, we will return to ferret out the daemon's prison and banish it back to the warp from whence it came.
We would like to commend Squad C1, 3rd Company, Regel 5 Foemakers for their service to the Emperor. They showed great loyalty and skill during our operations on Amduena. I recommend them for further service with His most holy Inquisition.
