The Pale Horse Ride Out - The Guardian of the Sanctum - An Assassination - The Pale Horse Rides In - The Peaceful Option

Episode 10 - The Viridian Sanctum

  • After the sun sets, the city falls into a mad frenzy of packing up.
  • When the clock strikes midnight, Calibration will begin, and no-one will know what will be going on.

  • The Pale Horse enter the city in parade order.
  • They are looking for Oboreta.
    • Casimir: "Exalt Oboreta, I would take you up on your offer from yesterday, if it is still open."
    • Oboreta: "Of course!, we've still got room for a few extra dancers and you would..."
    • Casimir: "The other one."
  • Oboreta is somewhat crestfallen.
  • She touches the Dragonlord's corpse and it burns away into golden essence.
  • Casimir reveals that, with the Dragonlord dead, the deal she made with the wyld bandits no longer stands.
  • As such, the bandits should be on their way back by now.
  • The Pale Horse, under Casimir's command, will ride out and meet the raiders.
  • They hope to destroy them before they can make it to the city.
  • Good luck to them (they are so dead).

  • The exalts regroup outside the MacGuffin Room entrance to the sanctum.
    • Bear: "What's in there?"
    • River: "We don't know but I want to find out."
  • Everyone light's their respective symbols.
    • Oboreta: "The difference between you and me is that I make this look good."

  • River feels a rush of essence as if he had just been doused in a refreshing stream of water.
  • The head of a great dragon emerges from the dais in the middle of the room.
  • 'sup?
  • It pulls its body through and coils around the room.
  • As it passes through us, we feel it's essence.
  • When it has made itself comfortable (and us uncomfortable) it materialises.
    • Dragon: "Greetings Solars, I see you have found me."
  • It is speaking in old, low and high realm simultaneously.
  • It's a bit creepy TBH.

    • River: "What is your name mighty spirit?"
    • Dragon: "It is lost to time".
  • Alright then, Mr. To-Time, how do we get into the sanctum?
  • Apparently we have to prove ourselves worthy of our exaltations before we can access the sanctum's power.
  • What a rip.
    • Lost To Time: "Who amongst you will be the first to be tested?"
    • River: "Pick me! I love tests!"
  • What a fucking nerd.
  • We have to describe our actions and deeds as solar exalted in this circle.
  • The guardian is more concerned with who and what we have proven ourselves to be rather than what we could be.
  • Some of us have a little bit of homework to do.
  • Especially because two of us still have that new exalt smell.
    • Guardian Spirit: "Perhaps you are not a circle as I first thought. At least, not yet. The power beneath is not for you. At least, not yet."
    • River: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
  • It will await our return.

  • River contacts the Eastern Green Dragon about the wyld bandits.
  • Bear wanders the streets in case the disease spirits want to have a go.

  • Wind Follower and Wren go to deal with the Hooded Man.
  • This should help Wind Follower prove himself to the guardian spirit.
  • The dynamic duo enter the catacombs.
  • The villain's guards are none the wiser.
  • On the desk in the hooded man's office is a disc from the Shadow Moon.
  • There are also papers detailing who he roped in to help him with his evil plot.
  • Guilt confirmed, time to carry out the sentence.
  • From a hidden chamber in the back comes the rustling of sheets.
  • Wind Follower makes sure that the sheets will rustle no more.
  • The pair light a match for a few seconds to see who the mysterious figure was.
  • Neither of them have any idea.
  • Oh well.

  • On the dot of midnight, the moon and the stars go out.
  • Alright, who deleted, the skybox!?
  • Clouds gather and a furious storm begins to whip around the city.
  • This is kind of mild for Calibration.

  • On the third day of calibration, a lone rider approaches from the east.
  • He is weak and wounded.
  • The guards bring him to the temple where the man is revealed to be Casimir.
  • Casimir: "We tried to renegotiate, and we failed. Then we tried to fight them, and we failed. I am the only survivor."
  • Well, shit.
  • Casimir was let go as a warning, to tell the city to surrender or face destruction.
  • The ranks of the wyld forces have swollen to over a thousand fighters.
  • They now have several spirit golems and two Green-maws (horrible plant monsters).
  • This is less than ideal.

  • On the fourth day of calibration my true love sent to me, a gigantic wyld army.
  • The exalts go out to meet them in front of the city.
  • Bear tries to talk them out of attacking.
  • The Bramblelord, King Bramblehat XIV, Lord of Brambleton and Protector of the Brambles is not having a bar of it.
  • Bear then tries to drive a wedge between the fair folk and the lunar.
  • The cracks start to appear but cannot be forced further.
  • They are resolved to do battle, and nothing can stop them.
  • They want the city and the sanctum beneath.
  • We have twenty-four hours to surrender the city to them.
  • Not bloody likely!
