Anathema - Questions - Guild Entanglements - Open Up! - Answers

Chapter 4 - This is the Police

  • The pillar of golden light splits the sky.
  • Militia are herding panicked citizens away from the area.
  • The mercenaries are cordoning off the area.
  • Oboreta grabs one of the "prop" swords, and heroically (but not quickly) strides toward the area.
  • Aldbur shows up with 100 more militia.
    • Aldbur: "Dragonlord Tepet! What's going on."
    • Tepet: "I think there's an anathema there, what with the golden light and all."
    • Aldbur: "If that is indeed the case, then they will be beyond the capability of any of you."
    • Tepet: "I've fought exalts before."

  • The spirit we took captive spills the metaphorical beans.
    • Takemoto summoned it to follow his (Takemoto's) instructions.
    • It doesn't know of other bases in the town.
  • Turns out it didn't have a lot of beans...

  • Oboreta, the Dragon Lord, and Aldbur approach the hatch.
    • Wind Follower: "I think the cavalry has arrived."
    • Carver: "But I don't hear horses."
  • Aldbur instructs Oboreta and the Dragon Lord not to talk about one of us being an anathema.
    • Tepet: "Dangerous game..."
    • Albur: "If it is who I think it is, it won't be a problem."
    • Tepet: "And if it isn't?"
    • Aldbur: "Then it definitely won't be a problem."
  • Our prisoners are gathered up and taken to the temple.

  • Priests come with bandages to patch up Carver.
    • River: "He's MINE!"
  • Possessive much?

  • Aldbur calls everyone into his office
  • He has his firewand out on the desk and he doesn't look happy.
    • Aldbur: "Alright, which one of you was it!?"
  • He asks River and Carver what their true intentions in this town are.
  • He's really angry.
  • He makes Carver cry - what a meanie.
  • Aldbur is willing to trust us.
  • He also wants a swift resolution to this Shadow Moon business - we have three days.
  • He puts the dragon lord in charge.
    • Aldbur: "Three exalts should be enough for this."
  • Yes... three exalts...

  • Aldbur retires to his angry dome training room.
  • There is an explosion with flames licking out from the door.
  • Apparently he hasn't been this angry since the previous priest died.
  • River knocks on the door.
    • Aldbur: "WHAT"
    • River: "Aldbur, I'm going to summon another spirit."
    • Aldbur: "NO!"

  • Wind Follower goes to a meeting with Lady Izume.
  • Oboreta and the Dragonlord tag along.
  • The conversation revolves around the Guild.
  • The Guild representative is pushing for a larger presence in the region.
  • They've been pushing hard for this over the last year or so.
  • Izume doesn't want that to happen.
  • She's worried that, if given a foothold, they'll muscle in and take over.

  • Oboreta gets River to look at her sick performers.
  • They've come down with consumption.
  • River uses his considerable skills to heal them.
  • Oboreta then asks River if he would fix a music box.
  • Payment negotiations are inconclusive as Oboreta basically wants it done for free.
  • River refuses.

  • Wind Follower and the Dragonlord go into the underground sections of the city to find Takemoto.
  • They find a small chamber with a hastily erected door.
  • Inside are Takemoto (assumedly) and four more Shadow Moon agents.
  • The two come back with some militia.
  • They bust in and take the agents unawares.
  • Off to jail with you!

  • Dragonlord Tepet offers the prisoners a deal.
  • If they talk, she'll exile them instead of executing them.
  • Of course, to make sure they don't link up with any Shadow Moon elements outside the city, she'll order her men to kill them once they've been ejected from the city.
  • Of course, the prisoner's don't know that.
  • It's hard to sell this to Aldbur but he eventually relents.

  • The prisoners tell us that there are three to four score other agents in the city.
  • They only know about the one meeting place (the one we already knew about) and the one safe house (the one we got them from).
  • The spirits were summoned for something big.
  • They weren't supposed to attack the dinner, something happened that caused fifty or so of the spirits to go rogue.
  • There are still over a hundred spirits lurking around waiting for a signal.
  • They don't know who the leader of their cell is - whoever it is, they always wear a hood.

  • Wind Follower and Carver scout out the Guild's underground complex.
  • Nothing obtrusive, just mapping entrances and inferring the layout of the complex.
